Delhi Hotel Fire Claims 21 Lives; Over 40 Rescued in Major Emergency Operation
New Delhi, June 3, 2026: A devastating fire broke out at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, claiming at least 21 lives and prompting the rescue of more than 40 people, officials said. The majority of those who died are reported to be foreign nationals.
The blaze was reported at approximately 8:50 a.m., triggering a large-scale emergency response. Multiple fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene at Lemon Green Restaurant, where the establishment identified as Flourish Stay B&B became engulfed in flames.
Firefighters, police personnel, and other emergency agencies launched a coordinated rescue operation to evacuate guests and staff trapped inside the building. More than 40 people were safely rescued and provided with necessary medical assistance.
Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Rescue and relief operations continued throughout the day as officials assessed the extent of the damage and worked to identify the victims.

Anant Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said the police control room received information about the fire at 8:48 a.m. “Local police personnel immediately reached the spot and initiated rescue, evacuation, and relief operations,” he said.
Eight fire tenders were pressed into service and successfully brought the blaze under control. Through the coordinated efforts of the Delhi Police, Fire Services, and other emergency response agencies, more than 40 people were rescued from the building and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment and further medical evaluation.
Officials said the prompt response of emergency teams helped prevent further casualties, while rescue and relief operations were carried out swiftly to ensure the safe evacuation of those trapped inside the premises.
Expressing “profound sorrow” over the tragedy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal confirmed that 21 people had been declared dead in the incident.
“Rescue and search operations are still underway, and all concerned agencies remain deployed at the site to provide every possible assistance to those affected,” Mr. Mittal said.
Authorities stated that emergency teams continue to conduct thorough search and relief operations to ensure that no individuals remain trapped and that all affected persons receive the necessary support. Officials added that the situation is being closely monitored, with police, fire services, and other agencies maintaining a strong presence at the scene.
