New Delhi, June 5: In a major political development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Nabin has formally accepted the resignation of senior party leader K. Annamalai from the party’s primary membership, three days after the former leader submitted his resignation letter to the party high command.
The decision follows a series of high-level consultations held on June 2, during which Mr. Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief Mr. Nabin, and National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh. Following the discussions, Mr. Annamalai formally tendered his resignation from the party's primary membership, prompting intense speculation over his political future.
According to party sources, the resignation was examined by the leadership through the BJP's established organizational process before being formally accepted. The party has maintained that the decision was taken after careful consideration and in accordance with internal procedures.
Announcing the decision, Mr. Nabin praised Mr. Annamalai’s contributions to the party and acknowledged the significant role he played during his years of association with the BJP.

Mr. Annamalai, a former Indian Police Service officer who transitioned into politics, emerged as one of the BJP's most recognizable leaders in southern India.
