Netflix fans already 'hooked' after first glimpse at new Kiera Knightley thriller - Daily Record

Netflix fans are counting down the days until Kiera Knightley's next major thriller role hits screens following the huge success of Black Doves. The British actress, 40, starred as a spy in the critically acclaimed programme which came as her first TV role after almost 25 years and earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Critics branded it as 'compelling' as well as a 'much watch' that was 'full of twists and turns'. Almost a year on from its release, Knightley will star in her next role which is a film adaptation of the 2016 novel, The Woman in Cabin 10, by Ruth Ware. The synopsis for the film reads: "While on a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for. Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger." The Woman in Cabin 10 is set to be released on Netflix later this year on October 10. The trailer for the highly anticipated film dropped on Tuesday with viewings already gushing over their excitement about tuning in as soon as they can. In the YouTube comments, one user wrote: "Love that Keira Knightley traded period dramas for the spy/detective genre. First Black Doves and now this!" Another exclaimed: "One of my favourite novels ever! Read it four times since 2016...Looking forward to this!" A third declared: "I read the book a few years ago and it was really good...had no idea a movie was in the works. Definitely gonna watch this". A fourth said: "Keira Knightley in a thriller? Say no more, I'm already hooked." The two minute trailer shows Knightley playing the role of award-winning journalist Laura Blacklock as she's seen being welcomed onto a luxury yacht, where she's greeted by its owner Richard Bullmer, played by Guy Pearce. Also on board are a raft of the rich and famous, played by actors including Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey and Hannah Waddingham. While she's writing about the work undertaken by a charity, her host admits the irony of them spending 'three days on a luxury yacht'. However, late one night she hears a violent confrontation take place and a woman's scream. Things take a sinister turn when she spies a body in the water. Raising the alarm immediately, Laura does her best to help, but her attempts are blocked when the crew insists that the woman she believes she saw fall overboard -who was staying in Cabin 10 - doesn't exist as 'everyone is accounted for'. Determined to uncover the truth despite being blocked at every turn, Laura then puts herself in the firing line but is warned to not anger the powerful people on board. In one terrifying clip from the trailer, she's pushed off a balcony, while others show her running down a staircase and being dragged down a hallway screaming as she tries to tell another guest, someone is trying to 'kill and silence' her. Ahead of the film's release, its writer and director Simon Stone said: "You never question whether or not she saw what she saw. You agree completely with her. It's her struggle against the conspiracy." While the book was released over a decade ago, author Ware told Netflix's Tudum that she still thought the material was incredibly relevant today. She said: "Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn't taken seriously because of who she is. "Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo."
