In a candid interview, singer and anchor Aditya Narayan revealed how his father, legendary playback singer Udit Narayan, raised him with discipline, tough love, and little praise, lessons that shaped him into the man he is today.
Aditya Narayan, son of veteran singer Udit Narayan, has been making headlines not just for his professional journey but also for his candid revelations about growing up in a musical household. Aditya Narayan made his acting debut as a child artist in the 1997 Bollywood film Pardes, which starred Shah Rukh Khan.
In a recent interview, the singer-anchor opened up about the tough discipline his father instilled in him, the lack of time they spent together during his childhood, and how his quest for validation shaped his life and career.
Speaking with Bharati TV, Aditya admitted, "My father disciplined me well till I was 18. He used to hit me a lot. I was beaten up quite a lot. But at that time, it was almost normal. Among friends, we even compared who got beaten more. My father maintained a balance; he loved me, but he also taught me discipline. He was very strict. Times have changed. Today, you cannot raise your hand on your kids."
Despite being the son of one of India's most celebrated singers, Aditya confessed he did not get to spend much time with his father during his early years. Udit Narayan's hectic schedule meant he was around only three to four days a month. Aditya shared, "He felt he had to make up for it. In those few days, he would try to teach me all the lessons of life. He showered love and also taught me discipline. But he never praised my achievements. I think my desire for his validation, for his praise, pushed me to become who I am today."
Aditya acknowledged that this dynamic made him more determined and ambitious. What he initially saw as strictness, he now interprets as tough love.
Looking back, Aditya said he chooses to see the positives. "It's all about perspective. I could sit and sulk, saying, 'Oh, my father hit me a lot.' Or I could think differently. I chose to see it as something that came from a place of care. He wanted the best for me, and he did what he thought was right."
According to him, this upbringing instilled resilience, discipline, and drive, qualities that continue to fuel his career as both a singer and a popular television host.
Aditya, who is married to his childhood sweetheart Shweta Agarwal, is now a father himself. The couple has a daughter, and in recent interviews, he has spoken about the importance of raising her with love, balance, and modern values. His reflections on his own childhood appear to have made him more thoughtful about the kind of parent he wants to be.
