President Donald Trump is placing another late-night comedian on the chopping block after rumors of a contract renewal surface. Since venturing into politics a decade ago, Trump has frequently clashed with liberal comedians for mocking his appearance, personality, and policies.
Last month, Trump mocked outgoing 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert after CBS announced it was cancelling the show next year. Trump then suggested ABC's Jimmy Kimmel would be the next comedian to lose his show as the late-night genre struggles to maintain their viewership.
However, the president seems to have set his sights on NBC television host Seth Meyers after hearing rumors the comedian is receiving a contract renewal. 'There is a sick rumor going around that Fake News NBC extended the contract of one of the least talented Late Night television hosts out there, Seth Meyers," Trump wrote on Wednesday morning to his followers on Truth Social.
Trump vows to investigate the contract after calling Meyers 'an insecure child.' 'He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child. So, why would Fake News NBC extend this dope's contract. I don't know, but I'll definitely be finding out!!!'
The president did not specify the rumors he was referring to in the post. According to Deadline, Meyers' contract is renewed through the end of 2028. Since the start of his second-term, Trump has increased attacks on media dissenters, especially late-night hosts and network anchors, by threatening to use the power of the FCC to take them down.
On Sunday, the president on Truth Social suggested broadcast networks should be fined or shut down for 'biased' coverage of his White House. 'Why is it that ABC and NBC FAKE NEWS, two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the World, aren't paying Millions of Dollars a year in LICENSE FEES," Trump told his followers.
'They should lose their Licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or Conservatives, but at a minimum, they should pay up BIG for having the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere at anytime!!!' During his first-term, Trump reportedly made calls to top executives at Disney demanding they censor Kimmel over jokes he made that were critical of the president. Disney is the parent company of ABC, which is responsible for airing 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.'
Meyers has been one of the critical late-night hosts of Trump's administration during and after he left office. Amid Trump's crime crackdown in DC, Meyers blasted the president for sending in the National Guard by calling it a distraction.
"Trump doesn't want to fix problems in big cities, because he loves problems in big cities,' Meyers said. 'He loves problems anywhere that can distract from his problems. And he definitely has problems - his polling numbers are not great, his MAGA base is questioning his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and voters are starting to suspect that the Trump administration might be a crime pot.' Trump earlier this year referred to the comedian as 'Marble Mouth Meyers' while claiming his show is not 'entertainment.'
