When it will be coldest in Kent this half term as chilly 5C lows on the way

More info Kent has endured plenty of turbulent weather since the autumn season began, from gale force winds and torrential rains to flooding and thunderstorms, with more to come this half term. As we near the end of October and start of November, Met Office forecasters predict the changeable weather will continue as we are about to see a notable dip in temperatures, as well as the return of heavy showers later in the week. Today (Tuesday, October 28) will be dominated by sunshine and mostly clear skies, with peaks of 15C in the south east this afternoon. Though cloud coverage will thicken at times over some areas, conditions are set to remain dry, if a little blustery, during the day. Cloud will continue to build overnight, when outbreaks of rain are then expected to develop into the early hours of Wednesday. Temperatures will drop overnight, hitting lows of around 9C in the South East. According to the Met Office, Wednesday will see more cloudy skies and rainfall for much of the day, which could turn heavy at times. Weather maps show rainclouds sweeping north east over Kent across the morning and into the afternoon as downpours turn heaviest from 2pm when the likes of Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet could see showers of between 16-32mm/hr. Conditions will start to clear in the evening, leaving a dry but very cold night. It is between Wednesday night and Thursday morning that the temperature will take the steepest plunge this week, hitting just 5C or 6C by 6am in Ashford, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone. After a mostly dry and bright day, further cloud and rain will arrive during Thursday evening as wind speeds also increase. This will develop to strong, gusty winds and heavy showers on Friday and across the weekend. By 6am on Saturday morning, the majority of Kent is expected to be covered by strong downpours, reaching in excess of 32mm/hr in some parts of the county. Rains will ease as the morning progresses though sporadic, lighter showers are anticipated for the remainder of the day. Once again, these will turn heavier overnight and into Sunday morning, meaning it is looking to be a very damp weekend overall. According to the Met Office long range forecast, these unsettled conditions are likely to persist for much of early November as low pressure lingers over the UK. The forecast for Saturday, November 1 to Monday, November 10 states: "All parts (of the UK) could see some heavy rain at times, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these most prevalent further east. "Strong winds are likely from time to time, with gales or severe gales a possibility. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are more likely, especially at first, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal."
